The best water for your plants is rain, and the easiest way to provide your plants with more rain water is to use rain barrels.  A rainwater barrel is also a great water conservation strategy.  They will capture and temporarily store the rain that would otherwise run into the street and into the storm sewer.  Once the rain barrel has water in it, you can use a watering can or a soaker hose to water your plants.  Besides being a great water coservation strategy, and providing healthier plants and lower water bills, using rain barrels have a couple additional benefits.  Reducing the amount of water that ends up in storm sewers will help reduce chances of flooding downstream, prevents pollution from entering the water system and helps to raise the water table.
