House Plants That Clean The Air:

If you would like to improve your indoor air quality the natural way there are some house plants that will do a much better job than others.  Some of these plants do a great better job at converting carbon dioxide to oxygen, while others help to remove harmful elements such as trichloroethylene, benzene, formaldehyde and other volitile organic compounds (VOC's).  Some of the best plants for this are:  English Ivy, Spider plant, Devil's ivy, Peace lily, Chinese evergreen, Bamboo palm or reed palm, Snake plant or mother-in-law's tongue, Heartleaf philodendron, Selloum philodendron, Elephant ear philodendron, Red-edged dracaena, Cornstalk dracaena, Janet Craig dracaena, Warneck dracaena, Weeping Fig, Gerbera Daisy or Barberton daisy, Pot Mum or Florist's Chrysanthemum, and Rubber Plant.  Level 6

Humidify The Air:

Beyond the benefits that an air humidifier can provide for allergy sufferers, they can provide relief to the effects that dry air can have on your skin, throat and nose.  A house humidifier keeps moisture in the air and easily humidify every room which can prevent damage to wooden floors and even lower your heating bills.  Humidity in the air helps to make it feel warmer, thus you can turn down the thermostat a little and not effect your comfort level. Humidifiers for home is one just of several great indoor air quality solutions to choose from.  Level 5

Clean Air Starts Here

The quality of the air that we breathe inside many of our homes is worse than the air outside.  There are a number of indoor sources such as dust mites, mold, pets, odors, gases, smoke, and various chemicals from a number of sources.  Other contaminants such as: antigens, pathogens, anthrax spores, viruses, bacteria, pollen, and small allergens enter form the outside and become trapped in our houses.  Most of these contaminants may be found in limited quantities in your house and may not cause you any more trouble than having to dust more often that you would like.  However, many of them can cause health problems, some of which will show up immediately while others may take years to become evident.  In order to improve and control the quality of the air in your house you may need to employ several srategies.

There are three categories of indoor air quality improvement strategy:

  1. Source control – eliminate products that off-gas, keep your house clean, and prevent mold from forming.
  2. Increased ventilation – open windows in good weather and mechanically bring in outdoor air in bad weather.
  3. Contaminant elimination – clean indoor air with filters, air purifiers and house plants.
